What is the Grocery Salary Sacrifice scheme?
The Grocery Salary Sacrifice scheme allows you to allocate a portion of your gross salary each month towards grocery expenses. This amount is deducted before National Insurance contributions are calculated, resulting in savings of up to 8% for you!
How do I sign up?
Open the Mintago Benefits app.
Navigate to the "Grocery Scheme" section.
Select a fixed amount you wish to sacrifice over a 12-month period.
Submit your request to your employer for approval.
How does it work?
Once your request is approved, you'll gain access to a virtual card. This card will be automatically topped up each month with your chosen sacrificed amount. You can use this virtual card for online grocery shopping.
When will the changes take effect?
Once your application is approved, the salary sacrifice will usually start from the next available pay period.
What if I want to shop in-store?
You can order a physical card for in-store shopping for a one-off fee of £5.40. There's also an annual transaction fee of £25.90 to unlock the card. Details of these fees will be clearly displayed during the card ordering process.

Do I need to keep receipts?
Yes, similar to a company expenses app, you'll need to upload a receipt after each purchase made with the Grocery Salary Sacrifice card.
What happens if I leave the company?
Your Grocery card will stop getting topped up, once you leave the company. Your remaining balance will stay on the card, for a following two months.
What if I need to leave the scheme?
We understand circumstances change! Please reach out to your HR team, to let them know you wish to leave the scheme. They will need to note a 'significant life event' has occurred. HRMC note this as 'significant changes in financial circumstances'. Please speak to your HR team for more information.
Are there any restrictions on what I can buy?
Yes, please speak to your HR team regarding your restricted item.
What happens if I don't use all the money in a month?
Don't worry! Any unused funds will roll over to the following month.
How much can I save?
The savings you make depend on your tax bracket. Here's a general idea:
Basic Rate Taxpayers: 8% National Insurance savings.
